Frequently Asked Questions - Implementation
Why isn't my account tracking statistics?First check to make sure you have the proper tracking script included in the body copy of your web pages.
One easy way to verify if the script is installed is to visit a page on your site and use the "Edit, View Source" option in your browser.
If our script is not found, you most likely have not inserted our tracking script on the page.
First you must obtain the script and insert it on every page of your site that you wish to track statistics for. To get the most accurate reporting the script should be placed on every web page of your site (use our auto insert utility if needed). The script must stand by itself and is most effective when placed with in the opening "<Head>" and closing "</Head>" tags. These tags are located toward the top of the html code above the "BODY" tags of each page.
Please note that if you have eCommerce enabled on your account you will also have confirmation scripts. The eCommerce tracking script(s) track orders and User Defined Transactions (UDTs). This script should only be placed on the confirmation page(s) corresponding to each UDT.
If you are still not tracking, check our FAQ on the use of frames.
You may access the menu option to obtain your tracking script at:
Setup / Get Tracking Script.
Can I track an ASP or PHP page that is generated dynamically?Dynamically Driven Pages
If your site is dynamically driven, a parameter in the tracking script must be modified to recognize the pages that are being created and identified. It is best to contact your IT person or webmaster to make this change.
In the tracking script, the parameter looks like this:
&pg=escape(location.pathname)
or this for new accounts:
pageName=location.pathname;
To track the dynamically generated pages, use the following example code:
Products.asp page needs to be modified with the following:
&pg=escape('<%=request.querystring('ID')%>');
or this for new accounts:
pageName=<%=request.querystring('ID')%>;
NOTE: the "ID" references the product ID but this varies per website structure and what the product is being referenced with to call it up
How do I add the Tracking Script to my web pages?FOR WEBSITES CREATED BY A WEBMASTER OR CONSULTANT:
If you had an outside source create your website, please have them add the tracking code to your web pages you wish to track. Give them your account id and password. Under the setup, go to the option called "GET TRACKING SCRIPT". At this point, the consultant will add the script and your site will begin tracking statistics.
IF YOU CAN MODIFY YOUR WEB PAGES:
If you can modify your web pages, you can implement the tracking script To add the tracking script, go to your hosting site and download your web pages into a folder that you create on your local hard drive.
Login to your statistics account and under the setup menu, select "Get Tracking Script". You will then see the tag "Automatically Generate Script". When you click on that, an automatic installation wizard appears. It will request the directory name that your web page(s) are in on your hard drive.
When the installation wizard is done, upload the pages back to your hosting site and you will begin tracking.

However, this report does not include the amount of time a visitor spends on the last page they view Since browsing the web does not notify the web server when you leave a page, it is impossible to tell whether a user left the site, shut down the browser or otherwise exited with the visitor going to another page on the site with the tracking script on it.
1) A visitor that visits a single page is recorded as '<1' minute (since the web does not report when the visitor leaves that page).
